What we like especially with the VuPoint Magic Wand portable scanner is the fact that it is nearly perfect for what we tested it for. Students are an enormous group that can benefit from portable scanning devices, and if you are spending endless hours in libraries going through a huge amount of books, then this is the scanner for you. You can easily use it to scan the books that you can't borrow and pick the pages that you really need. You don't need a huge backcpack to carry the books home, but you can just use this easy to use convenient scanner.
It works with AA batteries which other people will find to be a con, and other to be pro. The biggest benefit that you get from using batteries is that once they run out, you can just take them out and replace them. You can find them in any store, and if you are on the go and run out of power, you can get a full charge quite cheap. Rechargeable batteries on the other hand are more environment friendly, and if you care about this a lot, then you might want to have a look at rechargeable AA batteries as the power source for this VuPoint Magic Wand. Having two sets of them will make it easier and more convenient for you.
Based on our testing, it takes about 15 minutes to scan 30 pages of text, and the quality is good enough to be used for photos as well. We counted all the processes that it takes to scan the pages, and not just the actualy scan time. If you are using flatbed scanners, you will realize that it takes some preparation to get a good scan with a portable wand scanner like this, but in the end the results will be just as good. Once you get used to it, it is going to be much easier though.
